San Jose Uses Wuhan Virus Crisis to Infringe on the Second Amendment by Shutting Down Gun Stores

On Wednesday, March 19, 2020, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo declared all gun stores in the city to be “non-essential businesses” as a response to the growing panic caused by the Wuhan virus outbreak.
As a result, all of these stores have been forced to close as a result of the city’s shelter order.
“We are having panic buying right now for food,” Liccardo declared on Wednesday. “The one thing we cannot have is panic buying of guns.”
On Wednesday, law enforcement officials confirmed that they closed Bullseye Bishop in one of the first enforcement actions taken in San Jose on the first day of the shelter order.
“We went out there and closed it,” San Jose police Chief Eddie Garcia stated, also mentioning that the store owner was supportive and offered no resistance.
According to a reporter, store employees said the store is “closed to the public for the next three weeks” and declined to answer questions.
On the other hand, many prospective customers are disappointed by the shutdown.
Joshua Wolfe, a San Jose painting contractor, who was buying ammo, believes that the gun store has every right to stay open.
“Essential? It’s our right to arm ourselves,” Wolfe declared. “Toilet paper is essential, right? People are going nuts for that, right?”
Everyone is “on edge,” he asserted, “because people don’t know the truth of this whole situation. If they’re short on supplies, they’ll come after people who are prepared.”
J.V. Sumabat, another resident of San Jose, said he had the same concerns.
“I’ve seen people fighting over toilet paper. I’m worried what they will do out of desperation,” he stated. “When people start looting stores and they don’t have access to food, they could come into the homes of those they feel are vulnerable. I’d rather be prepared.”
Some government entities are completely exploiting this crisis to infringe on gun rights.
Americans must stand strong and declare that gun stores are essential businesses that cannot be shut down because of a crisis.
If anything, these scenarios of social chaos necessitate the ability for law-abiding individuals to arm themselves.
