ITALIANS desperate to escape the coronavirus outbreak in the north of the country were filmed racing towards trains last night, just hours before a huge lockdown began.

Video shared by Matteo Salvini, leader of Lega and former Italian deputy PM, showed panicked scenes in Milan’s Porta Garibaldi train station. The video showed hundreds of train passengers, complete with luggage, walking quickly towards trains after news of the planned lockdown emerged last night. He said: “Milan, Porta Garibaldi: masses of people in the late Saturday evening storm the last trains leaving Lombardy after the draft Coronavirus Decree filtered by the Government.”
