One of the few doctors on the White House’s coronavirus taskforce has warned lawmakers that there will be a wider outbreak in the U.S. and that the country doesn’t have enough testing resources to cope.
Dr Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, revealed in a closed-door briefing in the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday that there would be many more coronavirus cases in the U.S., according to a source.
Health officials have been scrambling to deal with the prospect of a widening outbreak of the flu-like illness within the United States with 60 confirmed cases in the country.
This week, authorities warned that Americans should start preparing for domestic acceleration of the virus, which has infected more than 80,000 people worldwide and killed nearly 3,000.
It comes as criticism of the Trump administration’s response to the crisis mounted as more countries reported new infections and global stock markets were on the brink of a free fall.
