(INTELLIHUB) — Grocery store shelves in Northern Italy were ransacked and left bare after residents in over a dozen towns were given news of a forced lockdown following a new clustered outbreak of SARS-CoV-2.

Shoppers, some wearing masks, others not, raced to fill their carts with much-needed food and supplies as the announcement of martial law came on Saturday.

As of Monday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases spiked to well above 200, signaling the worst.

In the town of Milian, residents rushed to get supplies ahead of the lockdown.

This was the scene in Milan on Sunday.
