An Arizona border sheriff says Mexican drug cartels like the one behind the Mormon family massacre pose an ISIS-like threat as authorities fear the same group could also be running drug operations in Utah.

Nine members of the LeBaron family, including three mothers and six children, were slaughtered while traveling in a convoy of three SUVS on a dirt road in the Mexican border state of Sonora on Monday.

A heavily armed suspected drug lord – identified only as Leonardo – was arrested late Tuesday in the town of Agua Prieta, right at the border with the U.S. state of Arizona, with two hostages and a haul of weapons.

The hostages are not believed to be related to the nine LeBaron family victims and authorities are investigating the suspect’s connection to the murders.
