After Embedding ‘Never Trumpers’ in the White House, Mike Pompeo Eyes McConnell-Backed Senate Run in Kansas
Pompeo is being groomed to stifle ‘America First’ US Senate contender Kris Kobach in Kansas.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is traveling to Kansas this week, as he tests the waters for a possible US Senate run at the behest of the Republican Party establishment.
Pompeo is coming to Kansas alongside Ivanka Trump, the President’s daughter, on Thursday. Congressman Ron Estes is welcoming the duo to the Sunflower State to participate in a panel discussion hosted by the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board.
“As a member of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Worker and Family Support, I look forward to hosting Ivanka Trump in Wichita to further the Trump administration’s focus on growing our economy,” Estes said.
Pompeo has visited Kansas four times this year, after previously erasing his footstep in the state as soon as he bolted to Washington D.C. He is trying to rebuild his ties to Kansas after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell publicly drafted him as the establishment-backed favorite for next year’s Senate race.
“The Kansas race is still unfolding. I’ve said several times—I’m not sure the president agrees with this — that I’d love to see the secretary of state run for the Senate in Kansas,” McConnell said earlier this year, referring to the seat that will be vacated by retiring Sen. Pat Roberts in 2020.
Some Trump administration officials believe that Pompeo’s establishment-backed Senate run is already a forgone conclusion.
“The widely held assumption is that he’s preparing a run, because he wants the reputation of a tough man without having to take on all the political risks that position requires,” a senior administration official told McClatchy DC. “Pompeo has never stopped being a congressman – he’s a congressman serving as a secretary of state.”
“The fear is getting fired like the last guy and having his entire political career ended by tweet,” the official added.
The establishment hopes that Pompeo’s run will stifle the momentum that is coalescing behind Kris Kobach, who announced his run for the seat earlier this year. Kobach, an “America First” patriot who is a long-time favorite of President Donald Trump, has quickly become the bane of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) and Senate Leadership Fund, the globalist special interests that bankroll the GOP.
Pompeo has also been among the main influences within the administration who have opened up the flood gates for “Never Trumpers” to infiltrate and subvert President Trump’s MAGA agenda:

Mary Kissel, who Trump once called a “major loser,” was hired by Pompeo as a senior adviser in the State Department despite opposing her boss on every single one of his policies. Pompeo also hired James Jeffrey as his envoy for the Syrian war despite the fact that he was a ‘Never Trumper’ who signed a pro-Hillary Clinton letter arguing that Trump was “a dangerous president [who] would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being” in 2016.
In Pompeo’s most egregious betrayal of Trump, he hired Elliott Abrams – the disgraced war criminal who supported the Iraq War and perjured himself by lying to Congress over the Iran/Contra scandal – as the Venezuelan envoy despite Abrams’ long-stated goal for the GOP establishment to “seize the party machinery back immediately after the Trump defeat.”
