The mosquito carried virus that causes Rift Valley fever may severely harm human foetuses if contracted by mothers during pregnancy according to new research.

Chaos struck when the impact of the Zika virus came to light with worry over travelling to infected areas, and it left thousands of babies in Central and South America with severe birth defects.

Now scientists are working on stopping a more deadly virus.

“Zika caught everyone by surprise,” said Amy Hartman, infectious disease specialist at the University of Pittsburgh.
