Chilling new video footage shows the Russian military testing a range of nuclear missiles in the Barents and Okhotsk seas.
Video shot from a surface warship monitoring the exercises, missiles are seen emerging from the chilly Arctic waters.
The new war-game footage is from large-scale drills ordered this week by Vladimir Putin, the supreme commander of the Russian armed forces.
Another clip shows the crew of a Russian submarine preparing to carry out a mock atomic strike.
A burly Northern Fleet commander is seen barking orders to his crew, with a submariner heard confirming: ‘Yes sir, a rocket launch.’
The on-board 667-BDRM – or Delta-IV class – submarine controls, buttons and dials have a strangely dated about them yet the impact of the missile is lethal.
The massive new exercises involved missiles launched from strategic submarines in the Barents and Okhotsk seas as well as by long-range bombers operating from the Engels, Ukrainka and Shaikovka airbases.
