The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed the gargantuan Category 4 storm is expected to make landfall on Friday and would stall on North and South Carolina and Virginia with maximum winds speeds of around 140mph.

Tennessee, Georgia and Kentucky are also likely to feel the effects of the devastating hurricane, the NWS said.

On Wednesday morning, the storm was about 575 miles (925 km) southeast of Cape Fear, North Carolina, with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph (215 kmh).

After declaring compulsory evacuations on Tuesday, North Carolina Governor, Roy Cooper, said: “This storm is nothing like you’ve ever seen.

“Even if you’ve ridden out storms before, this one is different. Don’t bet your life on riding out a monster.”

CNN meteorologist Michael Guy confirmed about 30 million across the Southeast will be affected if the forecast predictions are accurate.

Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center’s (NHC) latest update on Wednesday read: “This is a life-threatening situation.

“Persons located within these areas should take all necessary actions to protect life and property.”

About 1.5 million residents have been ordered to evacuate the coastline of the three states, while university campuses, schools and factories were being shuttered.

Residents prepared by boarding up their homes and stocking up on food, water and other essentials, stripping shelves of merchandise.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Brock Long said communities could lose electricity for weeks.

Crews also prepared 16 nuclear reactors in the three-state region for the storm.
