Holy fire map: Southern California wildfire grows to 9,600 acres – latest fire alerts

CALIFORNIA’s firefighters are currently tackling 15 wildfires across the country with Holy Fire in southern California spreading to 9,600 acres.

Holy Fire has spread to 9,600 acres and is only 5 percent contained according to reports from fire officials.

This is more than double the size of the blaze was on Wednesday night.

The growth of the fire is threatening residential areas, with around 20,000 residents under mandatory evacuation orders.

Schools have been closed in Schools closed Menifee, Perris and Lake Elsinore in line with the evacuations.

So far the blaze has destroyed 12 structures since it began in the Cleveland National Forest and a man has been arrested in connection with the blaze.

Forrest Gordon Clark, 51 is currently being held on $1million bail on suspicion of two counts of felony arson, a count of felony threat to terrorise and misdemeanour resisting arrest, according to a statement from the Cleveland National Forest.

According to Susan Schroeder of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, these charges could result in a life sentence.

Speaking to a press conference on Wednesday Ms Schroeder said: “Arson is a terrible crime that destroys dreams.”
