The video, posted by Virginia, USA, radio host Domenick Nati, shows his basement completely flooded following many days of relentless heavy rain.

In the footage, Mr Nati’s steps to his basement can be seen engulfed by a “waterfall” quickly filling his basement with water.

The American city of Lynchburg has been threatened by a possible dam breach since Thursday potentially causing a 5m (17 feet) wave to drown the city in just seven minutes.

Evacuations of the city have continued throughout the night as experts continue to monitor the Lynchburg dam, which is at risk of crumbling.

The College Lake dam has already started to overflow and there are fears that continuous pressure could break the dam itself.

Officials fear that the dam built in the 1930s could collapse, sending a “monster wave” downstream and flooding the city.

Around 150 residents out of the 8,000 total residents have already evacuated, seeking shelter from the potential dam breach in a local high school.

The east coast of the US has seen unprecedented levels of rainfall in the past well, with the strange weather expected this weekend.

Meteorologist Brett Rathbun said: “Lynchburg received 1.35 inches of rain on Thursday and 2.00 inches so far this month.”

The dam infrastructure is in a critical state after heavy downpours boosted water levels.
