On July 14, supporters of the imprisoned Tommy Robinson gathered to protest for his release from jail, claiming that he had been specifically targeted by the UK government because of his outspoken reporting on largely Muslim rape gangs.
Speaking at the London rally, UKIP leader Gerard Batten told protestors that such rape gangs were inspired “by the cult of Muhammad”. In his short speech about Islam and its effect on British society, Mr Batten claimed that “the founder of their cult was himself a pedophile who kept sex slaves.”
His controversial comments sparked reactions from both sides of the political spectrum, with Hope Not Hate condemning his “vile comments”, while most others lauded Mr Batten for his honesty, with some claiming he speaks “for the silent majority”.
Earlier this year Mr Batten came into the spotlight once again following his comments on the Westminster Islamic terrorist attack, when he labelled Islam “a death cult”.
Despite critics calling him “Islamophobic”, Mr Batten asserted that everything he said about Islam was “factually and historically true”, urging people to look “at the history of Islam” which is characterized by “Invasion, violence and intimidation”.
