In a new YouGov poll conducted between 9th and 10th of July, 50% of Britons support Donald Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom. While 37% believe the visit should not go ahead, it is clear the protestors who will be gathering in London to protest the US President constitute the minority opinion.

While a majority of British opinions towards Trump are still negative, with 77% of Britons having “an unfavourable view” of the President, it’s clear that most are willing to set aside personal differences and welcome Trump in what would be his first visit to the United Kingdom in a work capacity.

Trump visits the UK at a time of political turmoil for the hosts, with former Brexit Secretary David Davis and Foreign Minister Boris Johnson resigning in the past couple of days.

President Trump in January 2018 promised a “great” trade deal with the UK after Brexit, suggesting that whilst the UK are currently “restricted because of Brexit”, the United States would become “a great trading partner” following the United Kingdom’s exit.
