Bishop Rudolf Voderholzer from Regensburg has defended fears of the imminent Islamisation of Germany. He does not consider these fears to be entirely unjustified or even pathological fantasies, Catholic News Agency reports.

“Many today see the danger of an imminent Islamisation of Central Europe, not through warlike conquest and occupation, but through asylum and fertility,” the bishop said in a sermon on the pilgrimage of the Danube Swabians on Sunday in Altötting.

Citing the Middle East expert Peter Scholl-Latour, Voderholzer said that the West must not be afraid of external enemies, but “of their own weak faith and their own dislike of the future”

This also shows “in a reluctance of offspring, which can be considered by many people in these other continents as an invitation to come and close the gaps.”

Already last year, Voderholzer had called Islam a “post-Christian phenomenon” and criticised the “integration euphoria”.

At that time, the bishop said at an evening prayer in the Regensburg Cathedral: “The world in which we live, is deeply penetrated by Christian beliefs and the resulting values.”

And clarified: “Islam, of course, so much realism we have to muster, is a post-Christian appearance, with the claim to deny the core content of Christianity: the belief in the triune God, the incarnation of God in Jesus Christ and his redemptive work at the cross.”

Only those who either do not know their own beliefs or do not take them seriously can consider a far-reaching integration of Islam as possible.
