Attorney General Jeff Sessions is considering a new policy that would require asylum seekers and other illegal immigrants – and children traveling with them – to take DNA tests to prove they’re related.
Sessions and other Trump administration officials have said one factor leading to the separation of ‘family units’ is an epidemic of adults crossing the border with children who aren’t theirs, hoping to get preferential treatment in the asylum process.
The pending idea of swabbing Central Americans’ cheeks was revealed Monday night by Tony Perkins, president of the conservative Family Research Council, after interviewing the attorney general on his radio show.
‘Sessions is talking to congressional members and is hoping for a legislative fix,’ Perkins said in a statement to The Daily Caller. ‘The AG wants an immigration policy that is just, fair and enforceable.’
‘They,’ he said, referring to Sessions and members of Congress, have ‘talked about making sure that these really are the parents of these kids. They are looking at how to use DNA tests in the field to verify they are parents and not traffickers.’
