Military jet CRASHES near Mississippi Air Force base – two people on board

A MILITARY plane has crashed near Columbus Air Force Base, in Mississippi, officials in Lowndes County said.

The plane went down near Highway 373 and Barton Ferry Road which is north of the Mississippi base.

A Columbus Air Force Base spokesman confirmed one of its plane had crash but refused to provide further details at the time.

It is understood there were two people on board the plane and both ejected from the jet before it went down.

The US Air Force told NBC News: ”Both pilots ejected from the aircraft safely.”

The Columbus Air Force Base later released a statement saying an Air Force T-38C Talon II plane crashed sometime near 8.30am local time (2.30pm BST).

The release stated: “Both pilots ejected from the aircraft safely.”

“First responders have extinguished the fire and are securing the area. There are no houses or other structures in the immediate area of the crash.”

The pilots have been taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
