A man was arrested early Friday after storming the lobby of the Trump National Doral Golf Club near Miami, ranting about the President and exchanging gunfire with officers.

Police were notified of an ‘active shooter’ armed with a handgun about 1:30am, Doral Police Chief Hernan Organvidez said at a pre-dawn press conference.

The shooter, identified as 42-year-old Jonathan Oddi, allegedly pulled a fire alarm to lure emergency responders into the golf course’s lobby. He also draped an American flag over the lobby’s counter.

Officers from Doral and Miami-Dade confronted the gunman immediately, exchanging gunfire with the man who was ‘neutralized’ and taken into custody.

Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez said Oddi was ‘spewing some information’ about Trump, and ‘actively shooting’. The whole incident lasted ‘less than a couple of minutes’.

Oddi, who is originally from South Africa, but who lived in Doral and lists himself on Facebook as a fitness consultant, entered the lobby and began shouting ‘anti-Trump rhetoric’ before shooting into the ceiling and chandeliers as officers rushed in.

‘We don’t know what his intentions were in the long term but we know what he was doing at the time — he was trying to engage our police officers in some kind of ambush-type attack,’ Perez said.

‘He had an American flag that he did drape over the counter,’ Perez said. ‘That all was part of the investigation. We’re going to take it from there and see what his real motives are and how far we get into that point, and then we’ll have that discussion with the FBI to see how far this goes.’

‘We are not saying that this is terrorism, we’re not saying any of that, but we’re not discounting anything at this point,’ Perez added.

The gunman left the scene on a gurney, to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds to his lower extremities at Kendall Regional Medical Center. He was last reported in stable condition.

A Doral officer sustained a broken wrist in the confrontation, and was last reported in good condition at Baptist Hospital.
