Vladimir Putin announced his new “invincible” cruise missile and a nuclear torpedo – with a shock target revealed in the exhibit video displaying its power.
Close monitoring of the the animated video highlighted the target of this nuclear attack is in fact Florida – home of the US military’s central command.
Online viewers noticed that 43 seconds into the video, nine nuclear-tipped missiles can be seen descending on Tampa, St Petersburg and Clearwater on Florida’s west coast.
Such a nuclear attack in real life would inevitably prompt World War 3 to break out between the US and Russia.
The city of Tampa is home to the headquarters of the US military’s central command, situated at the MacDill air force base.
According to Alex Wellerstein, a nuclear weapons analyst at the Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey, the central command and the US special operations command would be destroyed and everybody in a half-mile radius killed by the detonation of a 20-kiloton device over MacDill.
Despite these fears, mayors of the local beachside towns dismissed the video as either a part of his war rhetoric, or a random choice.
George Cretekos, the mayor of Clearwater, told The Guardian: “While Mr Putin may be implying that Florida is a target, MacDill has long been recognised as a critical component of the country’s national defence and I remain confident in our national security capabilities.”
Donald Trump’s self-styled winter White House – the Mar-a-Lago – is also in Florida, and would be either destroyed or rendered uninhabitable by the nuclear blast.
