A former Idaho priest known for speaking out against child abuse in the Catholic church was arrested after a search of his home allegedly turned up child pornography images and sinister messages of him expressing his desire to rape and kill children.

Rev. W. Thomas Faucher was arrested at his Boise, Idaho, home on Friday after investigators obtained a warrant to search the residence.

Ada County Deputy Prosecutor Kassandra Slaven said Monday that investigators found hundreds of images of young children, including toddlers and infants, on Faucher’s home computer.

Some of the pictures showed the children being subjected to different sexual acts or torture, according to the Idaho Statesman.

Authorities said they also uncovered email conversations in which the 72-year-old retired church leader talked about his ‘sexual interest in children’. In other conversations, he allegedly discussed his ‘desires to kill and rape children’ and molest them.

One such chat screen was open on Faucher’s computer when police served the warrant, the Statesman reports.

Faucher, who retired as a priest three years, was arraigned Monday on 14 different charges, including 10 felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child and two felony counts of distributing sexually exploitative material involving children.
