A six-year-old girl has been killed by the flu just hours after the paramedics left her home and said she would be okay.

Emily Grace Muth fell ill last Tuesday and her mother Rhonda took her to urgent care where doctors diagnosed her with the flu and prescribed Tamiflu.

By Friday, Emily’s breathing became labored and Rhonda called the ambulance to their Cary, North Carolina, home where she was told to keep her daughter hydrated and that she would get better within a week.

But hours later Emily stopped breathing and died, making her one of more than 30 children that has been killed by the deadly flu that is set to be one of the worst on record this season.

Emily did not get the flu shot this season and now her parents Rhonda and Nathan Muth are planning to get their two sons, aged eight and 10, vaccinated.

The vaccine is 34 percent effective at preventing the most common H3N2 strain dubbed the ‘Aussie flu’ that is responsible for the devastating 2014 season.

However, the CDC is urging everyone that it is not too late to get vaccinated as it will offer more protection from the new strains, H1N1 and B viruses, emerging in the next few weeks.

The family is devastated by Emily’s sudden death and how fast her symptoms progressed.
