NORTH Korea is “hell-bent” on developing bigger and more powerful nuclear weapons and no amount of threats will convince ruthless Kim Jong-un to give them up, an expert on the rogue state has warned.

Despite pledging to “deal with” with the crisis on the Korean Peninsula, personal insults mixed with threats of World War 3 from Donald Trump have only served to make the volatile situation even worse, Robert Kelly said.

And dictator Kim’s recent test of his long-range Hwasong-15 missile only served to prove the North will not be “brow-beaten” into disarming and that its arsenal of weapons of mass destruction are “here to stay”.

International relations specialist Mr Kelly labelled the North as the “world’s most dangerous state” and warned despite the bluster, “ultras” within the Trump administration – including the US President himself – may genuinely want to attack the hermit kingdom.

And he said despite a series of crippling sanctions, the most important lesson learned by the international community in 2017 should be that the regime is “going to have these weapons no matter what the rest of the world says or does”.

Mr Kelly, an associate professor of international relations at South Korea’s Pusan National University, predicted dictator Kim would continue to plough money into his nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, regardless of cost.

And he warned other rogue states, inspired by Kim’s apparent success at developing nuclear weapons, may ramp up development of their own weapons.

He said: “That the North clawed its way into these weapons despite decades of hassle, global isolation, and sprawling multilateral efforts to prevent them should serve as a warning.

“Any rogue state with sufficient resources and ruthlessness can now likely acquire these weapons.
