THE BREXIT deal Prime Minister Theresa May agreed with the European Union was a “total surrender” and will see the UK remain “tied” to the EU, Ukip leader Henry Bolton claimed.

The Brexiteer politician also suggested the Brexit divorce deal Mrs May agreed to with the EU could have been completely drafted “in Brussels.”

Mr Bolton said: “What this is is a total surrender to the European Commission and in fact, having worked in Brussels for three years, I recognise the style of the document that has been produced.

“I would say 80 to 90 per cent of it was actually drafted in Brussels. Of course, we don’t know that but that’s my guess.”

The new text of the agreement was put together following a series of frantic phone calls between Mrs May, EU Commission boss Jean-Claude Juncker and Irish PM Leo Varadkar after a previous deal was scuppered by DUP leader Arled Foster.

But despite claims the new Brexit accord will push EU leaders to vote in favour of starting trade talks at the EU Council planned for December 14, Mr Bolton gave a more negative interpretation.

He said a clause of the deal on the future status of the Irish border could force the UK to remain tied to the EU despite Brexit.

He told BBC Daily Politics: “If there is no agreement we stay under full alignment. And full alignment means, effectively, we are tied to to the customs union, to the single market and therefore to the European Court of Justice.

“The UK has never asked for a border in Northern Ireland. What Theresa May has allowed to happen is that the European Commission, who want an external border to the European Union, want us to come up with a solution.
