Ri Myong-su, chief of staff of the Korean People’s Army, has inspected the rogue state’s frontier with South Korea.

He is one of Kim’s closest allies and was allegedly ordered to shut down the border, making sure no other defectors can escape.

General Ri’s visit comes after North Korean soldier Oh Chong Song, 24, made a dramatic and successful bid for freedom.

He drove a jeep across the DMZ, was shot five times, and lay critically injured for 30 minutes before he could be rescued by US and South Korean forces.

Kim has already purged all of the border guards on duty, and punished the commanders of checkpoint at the Joint Security Area (JSA)

“It is unusual for the chief of the general staff, who is one of the highest ranking officials in the country, to inspect an area where a defection was made,” a source told South Korean media.

North Korea has been building a new gate, checkpoint and concrete wall over the so-called 72 Hour Bridge.

Ri’s visit to the JSA and overseeing of the restructuring proves how seriously Kim is taking the defector.

Meanwhile, US and South Korean jets and soldiers are readying for war in exercise Vigilant Ace – a major show of force near North Korea.
