CONSTANT cyber attacks on Western powers are pushing the world to the brink of global war, top military boffins have claimed.
NATO generals made the chilling warning after an earth-shattering report highlighted 20 factors that could plunge the world’s most powerful nations into a devastating conflict.
General Denis Mercier, NATO supreme allied commander, said the document showed a greater risk of a major war than when ISIS was at the height of its power in 2013.
He pointed to the growing risks posed by cyber warfare before delivering the bombshell claim that Western powers were under “permanent attack”.
Get Mercier said: “In NATO, we are under permanent attack in cyber. And while we have been quite good at protecting ourselves so far we need to remain vigilant.”
But the report also highlighted the “considerable” threat posed by Russia and China.
Both powers have greatly expanded their armies and are pushing into neighbouring regions win a bid to expand their influence.
While Moscow has bullied its former Soviet partner, Ukraine, China is contesting land controlled by India – another nuclear-armed country.
Get Mercier added: “We see a considerable increase in the risk of major interstate conflict.
“Having global awareness is more necessary than before. We have to be ready for any kind of scenario.”
Meanwhile, North Korea continues its march towards securing a nuke capable of striking anywhere in the US.
Its latest missile test on Tuesday proved their ICBMs are now able to destroy Washington DC – the home of US President Donald Trump – they claim.
