Japan is on high alert after radio signals indicated the communist nation could be preparing for a ballistic missile launch.

The signals suggest North Korea’s army may be testing missiles as part of its winter training, according to reports.

Now South Korea and the US are “closely monitoring” whether the rogue nation is gearing up to test another ballistic missile.

“The South Korean military is closely monitoring and tracking possible North Korean provocations in collaboration with the US,” said army chief Roh Jae-cheon, spokesman for the Joints Chiefs of Staff.

North Korea has tested the patience of US President Donald Trump by firing a series of ballistic missiles in 2017.

The hermit kingdom has been eerily quiet since September 15, when it fired an intermediate-range ballistic missile over northern Japan.

But in recent weeks, activity at North Korea missile bases has been detected, a government source told Yonhap News Agency.

“More monitoring is needed to gauge whether the North is trying to launch a missile or is preparing for winter training that starts in December,” the source said.

The use of a missile tracking radar system and communication devices have increased at its bases in recent weeks, the source added.

Washington and Seoul are sharing intelligence and keeping a close eye on North Korea activity.
