A lorry-mounted launcher fired the missile which hit a moving target located (81 miles) away.

The test was carried out from the Lyaur military base in central Tajikistan during a joint military exercise of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation.

The intergovernmental military alliance includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, plus Afghanistan and Serbia as observers.

The missile launch was filmed by multiple cameras positioned no more than 100 metres away.

And it comes after it emerged that Vladimir Putin could be working on a “killer robot army”.

Spectacular footage of the test was later posted on video-sharing platforms where it made a big impression on viewers.

One observer wrote said: “This launch was beautiful. But the landing of the missile is a lot more interesting.”

While Stas Golovanov added: “Oh my, look at this power.”

Iskander-M is a short-range ballistic missile system which can carry a range of different conventional warheads, and also nuclear warheads.
