Images of jets – including the F/A-18E Super Hornet from its Strike Fighter Squadron 115 – taking part in US military exercises near the Korean Peninsula at the weekend have been released.
The airbourne monster flew off the USS Ronald Reagan, which joined other super-carriers USS Theodore Roosevelt and USS Nimitz sent to rein in Kim Jong-un’s nuclear ambitions.
But the macho bravado provoked a potentially fatal response from North Korea, who blasted the US for “digging their own graves”.
And in a bone-chilling message to its enemies, the Hermit Kingdom warned of “nuclear war at any moment” over the power posturing.
An article in North Korean rag, Rodong Sinmun, said: “The situation of the Korean Peninsula is now on the worst phase of tension in which a nuclear war may break out any moment due to the US reckless moves for aggression on the DPRK. So, it is clear what catastrophic phase such war games will bring.
“The puppet warmongers, keen on the moves to provoke a war, escalating the tension in collusion with outsiders, are harassers of peace and traitors to the nation who can never be allowed to go scot-free.
