Hezbollah leader says Saudi Arabia has declared war on Lebanon and Hezbollah.
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri must return to the Middle Eastern country.
He added the “insult” to the Prime Minister was an insult to all Lebanese.
In a televised address Mr Nasrallah also denied Hezbollah was behind a missile fired from Yemen which hit the Saudi capital Riyadh last week and said Yemenis the have capacity to produce missiles.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today said he was “very worried” by the escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, and that it was essential to avert new conflict.
He told reporters: ””We are indeed very worried, and we hope we won’t see an escalation. It is essential that no new conflict erupts in the region.
It could have devastating consequences.”
Mr Guterres said he had “very intense” contacts yesterday with Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and other countries in the region.
Saudi Arabia had ordered previously its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately, amid rapidly escalating tensions with Iran, which the Arab state claims is running Lebanon by proxy.
Fears of a military conflict breaking out have been growing for weeks which could draw the United States and Israel into the fray.
