Kim Jong-un’s regime believes the drills, which have also involved fighter jets from Japan and South Korea, are in preparation for an attack on the hermit state.

Drills carried out on Thursday involved a pair of B-1B stealth bombers which conducted a training mission near the Korean Peninsula.

Pyongyang believes these drills were a simulation of a “surprise nuclear attack drill” and has accused Washington of trying to spark a nuclear war.

The North Korean state-run propaganda outlet branded the drill a “nuclear bomb dropping simulation”.

It said: “The reality clearly shows that the gangster-like US imperialists are the very one who is aggravating the situation of the Korean peninsula and seeking to ignite a nuclear war.

“The US imperialists are making last-ditch efforts to check the dynamic advance of the DPRK by deploying their nuclear strategic assets in succession, but its army and people are never frightened at such moves.

“The US imperialist warmongers should not act rashly.”

The grave warning comes as President Trump travels to Asia for a 12-day tour in what will be his visit to the region as President.

Speaking at the White House yesterday, Trump’s National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster told reporters that the President will reiterate his view that North Korea is a threat to the entire world when he visits his foreign counterparts, starting with Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe on Sunday after a brief stop in Hawaii.
