There are reports of a shooting at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado.
Late on Friday night, the academy sent out a worrying tweet advising that the shooter was active on the grounds which sits north of Colorado Springs.
‘We received reports of active shooter on Academy grounds. There are no confirmation of shots fired. Security forces are sweeping the area,’ it said.
There is no information of whether anyone has been injured.
The threat comes just hours after a general with the United States Air Force told thousands of cadets under his command under his command at the academy to ‘get out’ if any of them hold racist views.
The head of the U.S. Air Force Academy passionately told cadets: ‘If you can’t treat someone with dignity and respect, then you need to get out.’
The fiery and blunt message from Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria came after someone wrote racial slurs on message boards outside the dormitory rooms of five black students at a preparatory school on the academy campus in Colorado Springs.
Air Force security personnel are now investigating, Lt. Col. Herritage told the Colorado Springs Gazette Thursday.
Herritage said he could not comment further after the slurs were discovered Tuesday morning.
Lt. Gen. Silveria, superintendent of the academy and the prep school, warned students at an assembly Thursday he would not tolerate racism.
