The hurricane, which has killed at least 10 people so far, is heading straight towards the US mainland, sparking evacuations across Florida.

The East coast of Florida is preparing for gigantic waves as the powerful swell from the hurricane is due to arrive on East Coast beaches on Sunday.

Southern Florida has been placed on hurricane watch, with warnings that storm surges of five to 10 feet could begin in the next 48 hours.

In the Caribbean, the waves have already reached a shocking height of 50 feet.

The horrifying map shows the storm will hit the south of Florida, including Miami, on Sunday at 11:24am EDT.

rma has been described as a “nuclear hurricane” by the Mayor of Miami Beach who is pleading with residents to leave the area as the Category 5 storm bears down on Florida.

The image shows the hurricane could engulf the barrier island of Miami Beach and be particularly destructive across South Florida.

Although Miami is three feet above sea level, Irma’s surge is around 16ft.
