he rogue nation issued a statement on Saturday through state-controlled media, insisting the rest of the world is safe from its rockets provided nobody sided with President Donald Trump in the event of war.
“The US has exaggerated that we’re posing a grave threat to the entire world,” said Rodong Sinmum, the official mouthpiece of Kim Jong Un’s regime.
“But we won’t initiate or threaten a nuclear attack against any countries in the world, unless they participate in anti-North military actions by the US.”
The statement reiterated Pyongyang’s long-held position that it was only building nuclear weapons as a deterrent to the US, in the belief Washington would attempt to overthrow the regime.
“North Korea has not pursued nuclear and rocket development secretly,” it read.
“Instead, all processes of weapon development have been transparently disclosed, as part of (the North’s) efforts to deter a war.”
The remarks are being seen as an attempt by Pyongyang to thaw international relations with the wider world, following the implementation of crippling new sanctions from the United Nations, Yonhap reported.
Earlier North Korea’s foreign ministry reacted angrily to Vice President Mike Pence’s call to South American countries to sever ties with Pyongyang.
