Following threats to launch missiles towards the US Pacific island last week, the hermit kingdom’s KCNA news agency released pictures of Kim inspecting a map on Monday which showed plans to fire four missiles aimed at landing near Guam.

But hours later the despot said he would not strike the US yet.

However, the threat has not been removed entirely as Kim said he had only delayed the decision as he waited to see what the US did next.

Tensions eased over the weekend as Mr Trump dealth with riots across the US following an alleged Nazi-supporter ramming his car into a Charlottesville crowd protesting against the removal of a statue of Confederate Army general Robert E. Lee.

Military experts have warned if Mr Trump aggravates Kim there is a chance he could snap and decide to fire missiles anyway.

Despite coming under fire over Charlottesville, Mr Trump found time to do his best to rile up the unpredictable leader by goading Kim on Twitter this afternoon, yet again.

The US President, wrote: “Kim Jong Un of North Korea made a very wise and well reasoned decision.

“The alternative would have been both catastrophic and unacceptable!”

His tweet came a week after threatening North Korea would be “met with fire and fury like the world has never seen” if it continued to make threats to the US.

Mr Trump’s staff have desperately been trying to persuade China, North Korea’s sole ally, to dissuade Kim from starting a war by firing missiles.

Joseph Dunford, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with Fan Fengui, chief of the Joint Staff Department of the People’s Liberation Army in Beijing this week.

Mr Dunford told Mr Fan, North Korea’s weapons programmes threatened the entire international community, including China.
