Donald Trump has pledged to place stronger economic and diplomatic sanctions on the hermit kingdom as it scrambles to build nuclear weapons.
But Kim Jong-un’s oppressive regime has claimed his attempts to weaken the isolated state will only strengthen their resolve.
A spokesman for the tyrant’s dictatorship said: ”The more the US increases pressure against us, the more we will ramp up our efforts to boost our nuclear deterrence”.
North Korea has long claimed its ambitions to build the world’s deadliest weapons is a response to US aggression.
And despite calls from the US and South Korea for the North to stop its rush towards nuclear armament and open a path for diplomatic peace talks, Kim Jong-un’s regime has doubled down on their bid to create weapons of mass destruction.
It comes as US military officials warn the dumpy dictator any intervention from western troops would be “tragic on an unbelievable scale” amid fears of World War 3.
As tensions escalate on the Korean Peninsula, Washington insists it will work with the UN, Japan, China and South Korea to reach a solution.
But US Defence Secretary James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis refused to rule out a military solution.
North Korea launched its latest missile test last week in defiance of international sanctions as the UN Security Council demanded Pyongyang halt all ballistic missile tests.
