Nigel Farage said he now has competition from Remain campaigners like Theresa May in “bashing Brussels bureaucrats”.
PM Mrs May launched a withering attack on EU figures earlier this week and accused them of meddling in British affairs.
The former Ukip leader said Britain was being united over Brexit following last year’s divisive referendum.
He told ITV’s Peston on Sunday: “I thought bashing Brussels bureaucrats was my domain!
“It’s fantastic, I was thrilled. I don’t tend to support Remainers, but she is using the same phrases I’ve used for the past 20 years.”
The former Ukip leader noted that in 2013 he won the local elections “on a manifesto of grammar schools, getting Britain outside the European Union, controlling immigration”.
He said: “Four years on, the British Prime Minister was running on exactly the same ticket and swept the board.”
But, the MEP warned: “She is a career politician with a poor track record so let’s see. We have to keep an eye on her.”
Mr Farage added: “I shall continue bashing Brussels bureaucrats, but obviously now – with Mrs May – I have got some real competition.”
