It comes after Marine Le Pen, who in 2015 warned the ‘Franco-German machine’ that powers the bloc is collapsing, is expected to gain votes from traditionalist parties.

According to analysts, Front National candidate Le Pen and Unsubmissive France candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon, who are vying for votes, could clean up because of their stance on Europe.

In 2015, Marine Le Pen slammed Francois Hollande and Angela Merkel during a sitting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

She fumed: “Thank you Mrs Merkel for coming with your vice-chancellor administrator of the province France.

“You are coming to catch up because your European Union is collapsing, obliged to maintain itself by blackmail, threat and intimidation.”

Since Mrs Le Pen’s epic takedown, talk in France has been consistently negative towards the EU in conservative circles.

Scepticism has also been rife over the relationship between France and Germany and how Ms Merkel’s policies have impacted other nations.

Terrorism, the migrant crisis and unemployment are the three most talked about subjects amongst voters; which many people blame Ms Merkel’s policies for.

While the issue of the shared currency, which is currently used by 19 out of the existing 28 member states, is also a major issue.
