A truck was driven into a department store in Drottninggatan, Stockholm, killing three – but the driver or drivers got away.

Eye witnesses then reported hearing shots and “loud bangs” outside the T-Centralen train station, roughly a five minute walk from the scene of the truck crash – which has so far killed three people.

Police initially appeared to say they had made two arrests near the station, but have just released a statement saying the truck driver or drivers are still at large.

They have released a CCTV image of a man taken near where the attack took place and have urged him to hand himself in.

The metro has been closed and the station is in lockdown and police have released an image of a “person of interest” and Swedish police are using everything at their disposal to search the underground and surrounding area.

Anders Thornberg, Säpo-chief, said they were working alongside the police and all available resources have been allocated to deal with the incident.

The security boss added their main concern was to find the perpetrator or perpetrators behind the attack.

It was also said the incident was not surprising as similar incidents have happened in other European countries.
