Paul Wilders, Geert’s older brother, revealed he thinks tensions could escalate dramatically across the country as Mark Rutte declares victory.

The 62-year-old said his brother’s campaign, which proposed to shut down mosques and ban Muslim immigrants from the Netherlands, could cause chaos.

Mr Wilders said: “I am very afraid that it will cause social turmoil and that may spill into trouble on the streets.

“He is putting out fire with gasoline, and not just him.”

The brothers have not spoken since last year.

Geert Wilders, 53, defiantly vowed his Party for Freedom (PVV) would bounce back and become the largest party in the country after coming second in yesterday’s election.

A win for the PVV would have been seen as a boost for Front National’s Marine Le Pen who hopes to win the presidential election in France.

But Paul fears the consequences if both his brother and Ms Le Pen refuse to accept election results.
