THE floundering European Union (EU) is a “long-term train wreck” and Britain’s momentous decision to Leave will see them unshackled from the “omniscient and authoritarian” superstate, an Australian expert has raged.

Professor Peter Murphy launched a blistering attack on the Brussels club saying it is “contemptuous of opponents and disdainful of public opinion”.
He even went as far to say half of the £18billion a year that the EU receives from Britain would have “financed George Osborne’s historic deficit reductions of around £8.5billion a year over seven years”.
Mr Murphy, a Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences at La Trobe University, said: “Britain sends £18 billion a year to the European Union. It gets only £9billion back in grants.
“The half that the EU retains annually would have financed George Osborne’s historic deficit reductions of around £8.5billion a year over seven years.
“Brexit is a remarkable historical moment because it opens up possibilities.
“Many of these will not be realised. But the ones that are realised will work because enough people in the end will say no to depressive political economies and yes to the spirit of endeavour, adventure and resolution.”
Britain’s Brexit vote has sparked an increasing anti-EU sentiment across the continent, as rising populist parties prepare a fight to topple the Union.
As nervous Brussels bureaucrats look on in fear over the rise of far-right leaders such as French Front National leader Marine Le Pen and the Netherlands’ Geert Wilders, Mr Murphy points out the EU is power hungry.
Writing for Quadrant Online, he goes on: “The EU meets its every failure with one response: we need more power. The EU’s founding notion was that nationalism, not militarism or totalitarianism, led to two world wars
“From day one the EU’s purpose has been to white-ant the sovereignty of its member states.
