The new US president signed an executive order today officially withdrawing the country from the trans-Atlantic trade deal.

In an Oval Office ceremony, Mr Trump called the order a “great thing for the American worker.”

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, known as TTIP, had been intended to lower trade tariffs on business across the Atlantic.

Negotiations on the US-EU trade deal started in February 2014 but talks came to a standstill under Barack Obama.

However, this flies in the face of Mr Trump’s “America first” inauguration promise, which will focus on US trade at the expense of international deals.
