Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Congressman Ron Desantis of Florida’s 6th congressional district introduce a constitutional amendment that would impose term limits to members of congress. Senators would be limited to two six-year terms and congressmen limited to three two-year terms.
Ted Cruz writes:
The time is now for Congress, with the overwhelming support of the American people, to submit this constitutional amendment to the states for speedy ratification. With control of a decisive majority of the states, the House of Representatives, and the Senate, we have a responsibility to answer the voters’ call-to-action. We must deliver.
Recently in an interview with Sean Hannity, Cruz says this will be one of the ways to stop the corruption in Washington and to “drain the swamp”. Term limits truly is a bipartisan issue and I believe both parties can come together on this topic. It will be a long shot since there are many corrupt politicians on both sides of the aisle. From Republican Alabama Senator Richard Shelby to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, NO ONE should be in politics for 30+ years. That’s not the way the founding fathers intended it to be. It is no secret that they wanted to design a system in which someone can be in the political scene for a certain amount of years and then go back to their normal life on the farm or whatever else it may have been.
