‘Demons have been unleashed in Europe’ and it needs the US to survive, warns Merkel ally

FORMER German vice chancellor Joschka Fischer has warned that the future of ‘The West’ is as stake ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration.

And he says that the historic peace deal struck following the Second World War is on the brink of collapse as both continents diverge politically.

Mr Fischer, 68, served as the second longest-serving foreign minister in German postwar history in the cabinet of Gerhard Schröder from 1998 to 2005.

And while he represents the Green party he has been a staunch supporter of three-term Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Indeed last year he came to the defence of Mrs Merkel over her disastrous migration policy insisting she “deserves respect”.

Now he’s warning that the entire foundations of The West are at breaking point thanks to the differences in political opinion.

Forebodingly he also warned that “the crypts of nationalism have been opened” that their “they will once again release their demons upon the continent.”

And that China cold become the victor of any potential conflict between America and Europe after Donald Trump’s foreign policy declarations.
