America needs immigration to maintain itself. Without immigration, programs such as Medicare and Social Security would quickly disappear. America presently has a native birth rate of 1.8. No nation has ever maintained itself when the birth rate slips below 1.8. However, the quality of immigration is important. An important question to ask is if we are going about immigration the right way?

Unless one is a globalist intent on destroying America, there are a couple of principles that should be pointed out. First, the United States owes nobody a share of our country. Nobody is entitled to come to our country and expect us to change our laws and our culture. Third, immigrants should only be admitted only ofr what skills they bring. And of course, refugees are welcome, but only under the aforementioned conditions.

Donald Trump speaks of building a wall and then admitting people who are not dangerous. However, President-elect Trump would be well-advised to incorporate some means testing as to who would be a suitable immigrant.

There will be those who remember the migration of Cubans to primarily Florida. Many of the immigrants were of high quality, but were unable coexist with the marxist Castro regime. However, some were of dubious backgrounds and should never have been admitted. Specifically, I am referring to the times that Castro opened his prisons and mental hospitals and sent them on boats to the United States. In these circumstances, we should have never admitted this group of immigrants as we allowed Castro to send his burden to the United States.

Our government has an obligation to admit quality immigrants soas to not lessen the quality of life. If this sounds elitist then ask Obama why he does not take in homesless people to the White House. America has obligation to become the repository of the world.

Historical Attributes of Immigration

Immigration into the United States has historically been allowed in order to fill low-skilled, low-paying jobs. During the dawn of the Industrial Age, when the United States admitted immigrants, IQ considerations were not a primary concern exceptfor the fact that all immigrants, in order to become citizens, had to eventually pass a test on minimal English profiiency as well as pass a test on United States history and the Constitution. The process of naturalization used to take seven years from the time of registration to the point in time when a person because a full-fedged citizen. Althugh this country admitted people with little going for them, to stay here, these same people had to achieve the ability to have the potential to be a contributing member of society.

Where the process used to take seven years, it now takes seven seconds for an immigrant to take up permanent residency in the United States. There are absolutely no controls on who enters and who stays in our country. Criminal behavior, intelligence and the ability to assimilate are not a consideration in today’s America. And when we mix in the fact that we know that terrorist cells are entering the US along with immigrants, this is a prescription for disaster.

Often the first generation of immigrants do not assimilate well. Immigration hubs (e.g. New York City), would see enclaves of places that would be called “Little Italy” in which the native language was spoken and assimilation rates were low. However, assimilation rates in the second generation were relatively high and this pattern became the accepted plight of the immigration scenario where immigration faced tremenous challenges in the first generation and then the children of the immigratns were far bettter off than were their parents.

The main goal of most immigrant families was to achieve education for their children and to find and keep a job. What about the crime rates? Does America suffer from increased crime as a result of immigration? Yes, there are the cartels and there are well-publicized crimes of illegal immigrants perpetrated against American citizens. However, the government data would suggest that immigrants pose no greater threat to safety and welfare than do native-born citizens. This is assuming of course, that one can trust the stats put out by the FBI.

Well, if we acept the FBI’s statistics, and they are the only group to produce stats on the criminal behaviors of immigrants that are professionally collected and are not anecdotal in nature, then the picture of the average immigrant is of one who does not commit crimes at a significant level.

Higher Immigration is Associated with Lower Crime Rates
