The president of a conservative nonprofit organization assisted a billionaire Clinton donor with securing the support of Republicans for Democrat Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential bid, the donor – Lynn Forester de Rothschild – disclosed in an email to John Podesta, The Daily Caller reported.
A spokesperson for the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) confirmed that indeed, de Rothschild knows the head of the nonprofit, Arthur Brooks, but strongly denied that he helped, or was in any way in contact with the Clinton campaign, claiming instead that de Rothschild misunderstood what Brooks was saying.
The DC noted that on June 28, nearly two months after Donald J. Trump clinched the GOP nomination, de Rothschild forwarded an email chain between her and Brooks to Podesta, Clinton’s campaign manager, and former Walmart executive Leslie Dach. As reported by Politico, Dach headed up the effort to bring aboard disaffected Republicans into Clinton’s circle.
In her email, de Rothschild told Podesta and Dach that the AEI chief was “helping me with many Republicans.” The chain between de Rothschild and Brooks shows her pushing him over how best to “engage you with Hillary,” with Brooks responding that he would be “delighted to talk with Hillary or her campaign people.”
