The billionaire businessman-turned-politician’s election sent shockwaves through the European establishment last week after his surprise win over Hillary Clinton.
Mr Trump has frequently spoken of his disdain for the EU and sought to link himself to Brexit during his campaign.
There are now concerns his election could destabilise the EU-US relationship.
Melanie Amman, the political editor of German news magazine Der Spiegel, told Sky News Mr Trump’s election had rocked Germany.
“Politically Berlin and the citizens of Germany are very worried about the victory of Trump,” she said.
