MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said Monday that FBI Director James Comey had “a mutiny” brewing underneath him when he decided to tell Congress that the FBI was looking into new emails in its investigation of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of State.
“He had a mutiny on board at the FBI. He was sitting on top of an exploding situation there,” Scarborough said of the FBI director, who has come under enormous criticism from Democrats. They say the FBI is interfering in the presidential election with its actions.
“Comey was in a no-win situation. If he did what he did, he was going to get attacked, and if he waited until after the election, can you imagine?” Scarborough said.
The emails the FBI is now considering were found during a separate investigation into former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), who is married to longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
Mike Barnicle echoed Scarborough’s comments during the segment, adding that the FBI “is in turmoil” over the Clinton investigation.
“There’s a lot of dissension over this case, has been for many, many months,” said Barnicle.
