IRS Impeachment Vote Could Happen In Just A Few Days

House Freedom Caucus member Rep. John Fleming of Louisiana is slated to file a privileged resolution Tuesday to force a floor vote on the impeachment of Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen.

Republicans pushing for the vote allege Koskinen misled Congress and violated a subpoena related to the IRS targeting of conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status.

Conservatives leading the effort have been vocal about their belief Congress has a responsibility to hold the IRS head accountable for his actions. But a number of members of the party have been hesitant to support the push, fearing it will disrupt regular order, set a bad precedent and draw negative attention during an election year.

“Impeachment is not something that should be dealt with lightly or in an overtly political manner,” Rep. Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania told The Hill.
