The flag, seen as a symbol of Brussels’ continued domination, still flutters over many civic buildings in the UK despite the country’s vote to quit the EU.
Now more than 10,000 people have signed a petition calling on the Government to take the symbolic step and remove all EU flags, emblems and logos.
The move has been backed by the Bruges Group, which was founded to promote and uphold the ideas Margaret Thatcher expressed in her famous Bruges speech in 1988.
n it she argued the tide of opinion on the Continent was towards centralising European institutions and this would be unsuitable for Britain.
Graham Eardley, of the Bruges Group, said: “The Prime Minister should show she is serious that she means what she says when she says Brexit means Brexit and request that all EU flags, emblems and logos be removed from all public buildings in the UK.
