President Francois Hollande has announced he will not only mobilise the 10,000 soldiers in army units available to him, he will also call up reservists to guard the borders with the bloc.

This morning German Federal Police also said they would boost border controls at airports as well as road and rail crossings into France.

At least 84 people were killed and dozens more were injured after a gunman drove a truck at high speed into crowds celebrating Bastille Day in the southern French sea resort.

A terror attack in Nice killed at least 84 people last night and left 18 critically wounded.

It is believed at least 10 children are among the dead.

While families turned up to watch fireworks for Bastille Day a terrorist drove a 19-tonne truck drove 1.3 miles along a packed promenade at around 40mph, before pulling out a gun and shooting the crowd.

In the wake of the latest attack President Hollande said the country remained “under threat from Islamic terrorism” though nobody has taken responsibility for the attack yet.

It is widely believed it was carried out by an Islamic State fanatic after the terror group celebrated on social media.

Although the gunman is believed to have been a French Tunisian who resided in the country, Hollande has called for a military guard around the country’s borders.

He said: “I will once again mention our highest military operation of security, which will now allow the mobilisation of 10,000 military officers across the country.

“This will cover all brigades of the police, who will be called from across the country, to the Nice region to assist their comrades.
