It took barely a half hour for the shooting at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to spark online commentary about the need for gun control. The chatter came so quickly that it happened before the shooting was even over.
Igor Volsky, a deputy director at the Center for American Progress, was the first notable personality to hop on the gun control train, bashing Fox News as a mouthpiece for “NRA propaganda” at 1:28 p.m. Eastern time, just 35 minutes after UCLA’s alert system issued an active shooter warning.
Actress Debra Messing was just a few minutes behind, quickly tweeting out a selfie that was intended “2bring awareness” about gun violence.
